Males
They had placed the olive leaves because it was a symbol of success and victory, and boys are suppose to achieve more greater than girls. When boys turn 3 years old its the day where they are marked symbolic to move move into the world of men. At the age of 6 years old boys are beginning their schooling, and their would only be about 10 boys in a class. As ancient Greece boys get older they start to vote, which both females and children are not allow to vote. At the age of about 25 to 30 many men in Ancient Greece are lucky, that they could vote, read, and write. For, For females they could not do any of those thing.

Young Female
The life of a female in Ancient Greece would be believed as cruel or harsh today. In Ancient Greece when a female baby was born. Some babies are left in a public place where anyone can pick her up ,or they would be adopted as slaves. To tell people that they have a female baby they would pinning some sheep’s wool to the front door. As the female gets older she would see her brothers go to school, while all young females are left home, where they are taught how to be a good mother and wife. Females are only taught enough reading and writing to know how to look after the accounts. As they are turning older they are taught how to weave their clothes, wall hangings, cushions and bed linen, for their home and selling at the market. As their brothers are playing and running around after school, all females can not run around because it was know as not “lady-like”.

Slaves were own by many people, from the richest people to the middle class people, slaves were not owned by the poor families, because they did not have much money to buy the slaves from the slave owners. Their were both female and male slaves, but the female slaves had the best reputation because female slaves are often employed as wet nurses. Wet nurses are slaves that feeds their employees children. Slaves also would cook, clean, and take care around the house. Male slaves would work in the farms and do the heavy work most of the time.

City-States
Athens
The Athens were one of the most important and powerful cities in Greece during the classic period. Athens were one of the first greek city states to fully develop Democracy for a government. Male citizens in the Athen empire are able to vote, However voting was not elegiable to everyone. At this time all females were not able to vote on anything, neither were children. The slaves in the Athen city state were banned in participate in any government. In this part of Greece we have an Agora. An agora is a gathering place, mostly used in Ancient Greece. |
Sparta
When Sparta teams up with Athens, they are one of the best city-states of ancient Greece, but during the 6,500 B.C it was a very different place to Athens. The Sparta city-state was ruled by two kings and a council of Elders. During the 5th century BC Sparta became very powerful, due to Sparta's army, which had included other Greeks. Sparta main focus for their city-state was producing good soldiers, which included all male citizens. The Sparta army played an important role in history, because they won Greek victory over the Persians on 480- 479 BC. The Sparta people were not just focusing in war and army their main focus was Bronze and ivory workers which produced beautiful objects and poetry. Their art pieces in the 480 BC provided evidence from their culture today. |
